Brian + Sara Wedding

•March 25, 2011 • Leave a Comment

I had the privilege to be part of Brian and Sara’s Wedding celebration here in NJ. When I heard that Brian is an officer of the US Army, I got really excited and honored to be able to take photographs of their special day, specially since they can only take short breaks from duty. Sara is a such a lovely bride and a wonderful person. I just heard recently that she will be part of the military too. I wanted to convey a story of an officer and the families they leave back home to serve this beautiful country.

So here is my tribute to the brave men and women of the US military.

Congratulations Brian and Sara! Be safe, we are proud of you both.

WPPI Accolade of Excellence Award

•October 1, 2010 • 2 Comments

I was ecstatic when I opened my email and got a note from WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) that I won TWO Awards of Excellence for the first half of the 2010 International Wedding photo competition. I really didn’t expect this, I just wanted to see how I fare with the rest of the world and to share my images.

Each year WPPI holds an International photography competition. This year they switched to a digital format, so there are thousands of entries that we’re entered to the competition. The premiere wedding photographers of our industry sit on panels and judge each image.

It’s my first year of Joining WPPI  and to be able to compete with the best in the world truly is a humbling experience.

Here is the press release that they issued

and here are my winning entries in the Photojournalism Category

A recommendation from a previous bride

•August 5, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Everytime I get to be a part of someone’s special day, their wedding day. It makes me really happy because I get the chance to meet a new friend. My brides treat me as family or a close friend. My relationship to my clients is very important because they entrusted me to record a very important and special moment in their lives and I value it very much. So when one of my potential clients asked me if they could reach out to my previous brides to get feedback on my services, they were so happy and willing to oblige. Thanks very much to all of you.

Here is what they have to say about me

How did you hear about Sachi?
A friend from church referred me to Sachi.

How was he with getting back to you when you needed something?
Sachi would always get back to my husband and me in a very timely manner.

During the day of, was he on time and did he hold true to what you agreed to when you met?

Sachi and his assistant photographer was REMARKABLY prompt and punctual. I was running late on the day of my wedding due to some issues with my hair and makeup but he was flexible enough to take pictures of my husband and his family first.

Did you notice he was around or was he more in the background?

Sachi was completely hands on and was in total “ACTION” mode from the preparation stage\church ceremony\reception. I understand what the word “background” means BUT I don’t see why I would hire a photographer and expect him to be in the background..it just doesn’t make sense.

Did you feel he listened to you when you asked for specific types of photography – such as traditional vs candid vs photojournalistic vs creative?
My husband and I were both easy to work with, we basically saw Sachi’s work of art and his passion for photography… and we are just in awe (even at the present moment) with Sachi’s talents and all we had to do was enjoy our special day and really put Sachi to work. We have traditional, candid and photo journalistic photos. Sachi simply knows how to capture all of it!

Are you happy with the photos that you received?
Yes, I am definitely happy with my photos and album (it’s the tiny one.. I forgot what the proper term is for this). I have printed most of the photos from Sachi to assist me in selecting the ones that I intend to put in an album. I can show my photos to you if you want to.

Are there any changes you’d think to ask for now?

If I would have to change something, I would have allotted more time for picture taking after the church ceremony. I just didn’t think that the church ceremony would take longer than an hour and a half. Just to clarify, Sachi has nothing to do with the scheduling in any shape or form.

Was he timely when sending back your album and prints after you picked out your photos?
Sachi was simply excellent and accommodated my sort of rush requests in a timely manner…beyond what was written in our contract.

Here is from another bride

First – Congrats on your engagement! That’s great that you’re already planning everything, and I wish you the best of luck with the planning and wedding.

Okay – I will try to answer everything you asked – if I miss something, please feel free to contact me again. In terms of price, when I compared Sachi to the other wedding photographers I evaluated last year, he gave me a better package than all of them. This is because Sachi gives you the CD with all of your pictures on it – other photographers that I spoke with refused to match this aspect of his package. The CD is great because it means you can make extra prints yourself – if you went through a photographer that did not give you the CD, you would have to contact them and wait on their timeline to get extra prints. My family also took the CD from me, and made their own photobooks online – so I personally believe this makes Sachi’s price worthwhile.

Sachi and his whole team were absolutely fabulous on my wedding day. They arrived early and were able to capture all the small moments that make your day special. Sachi and his team were able to blend into the wedding, and therefore my husband and I felt extremely relaxed during the photo shooting. Being relaxed is what makes Sachi’s artful style – while your spending a private moment with your new husband, the team is capturing all of these one-in-a-lifetime photographs.

I found Sachi online – I was specifically looking for a “photojournalistic” style of photography for my wedding day, and was able to find his website through a search for New Jersey wedding photographers.

With everything said and done, and almost a year after my wedding, I am still just as happy with Sachi now as I was during the wedding day. He is great to work with, and creates a relaxing atmosphere that allows you to sit back and enjoy every minute of your day, while knowing that he is helping you remember all of it. When you’re busy planning everything for your wedding, it’s great to know that you have a reliable vendor that will not disappoint. Sachi’s work is absolutely stunning, and my friends and family continually gush over his ability to capture the true essence of my husband and I’s love for each other.

Jim and Ruth Wedding

I love this wedding because it brought out my style of wedding photography. A blend of photojournalism, editorial, fashion and what I call relationship photography. I traveled to Pennsylvania for their wedding and it was all worth the trip.

Ruth actually is the sister of Emma one of my brides who will get married later this year. So I’m really glad that both sisters put their trust in me to cover their most special of days.

Congratulations Jim and Ruth!

The Wedding of Phil and Allison

•February 23, 2010 • Leave a Comment

This is my first wedding for 2010, so I was really giddy and excited. Even though there was a threat of a major snowstorm that day it never hampered the mood of these fun loving couple. I was kinda nervous about the thought driving on a snowstorm but I got lucky that it swerved and didn’t hit us as was forecasted, but I was a bit bummed because I kinda wanted to shoot photos of the couple in the snow hehe but all is well, the couple were so much fun, had great personalities and were so much in love with each other that the photos really came out great, lots of love and lots of passion.  I’m lucky to be part of it and captured those wonderful moments for them to enjoy.

Here are some photos of that day.

Playing with textures

•February 14, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I have always been a fan of textures applied to photos but haven’t got a chance to play around with it till now. It does enhance the mood and “style meter” of a photograph especially if it goes to print like a magazine or a wedding album.

In choosing a texture you have to adapt it to the mood of the photo. If the photo has dark edgy shadows, vibrant color contrast and a subject with an attitude go for a “grunge” look. It makes the photo pop.

I used a similar metal texture that I got online  (grungetextures.com) or you can take photos of your own textures say a cracked wall, rusted metal or concrete.

Abrasion on Metal Texture

here’s the original photo

Original Photo

  • Pick a photo that you want to layer with the texture.
  • open both photos in photoshop and overlay the metal texture on top of your photo by dragging the texture over your photo using the move tool
  • pick a blend mode and add a layer mask.
  • with a soft brush clean off the part that shows the skin and voila you get your enhanced photo (well I know this is a quick rundown but there are better tutorials out there in the web)

Play around with it, you’ll be surprised at what you get.

The grunge look

Here is another photo but with a more subdued mood, muted colors with a romantic feel. So I picked a texture that is more subtle in color, like a cracked gray concrete wall.

soft look

Try it out and have fun doing it!
